Welcome to the PSA Midlands Chapter!
When I first became involved with the PSA in 2004 I wanted to learn more about the speaking community and how to make an impact when I gave presentations. I was intrigued but never really felt I had the potential to become a serious professional speaker. I was a competent presenter with a background in the corporate world, happy being on my feet - which means I could deliver a clear message on a specific topic with authority.
I joined the PSA as a member the following year having been bitten by the bug to become better and turn my ability to speak into a separate business.
There is a huge difference between having the ability to deliver a simple corporate presentation using a lectern and loads of PowerPoint to that of nailing a performance that inspires and motivates the audience to take action. Some speakers’ talk of Legacy – it’s not just about what happens on the platform it is what happens afterwards as a result of your talk. Your ongoing Value!
My journey still continues everyday with the support of colleagues and friends from within the PSA, through the good times and the not so good, I am constantly learning from others. The BIGGEST tip I have to share is this – quite simply you can not do this on your own, you need friends, colleagues, mentors, stooges and feedback with honesty. Developing a speaking business is so much harder without all of these elements, the community provide by the PSA will satisfy all of these requirements and many more, all you have to do is ask!
